((Developing a bit of AU history for Clay post season six. Contains spoilers for season six of Sons of Anarchy.))
It's been a couple years since Clay was arrested and sent to Stockton for Damon Pope's murder. The deal that he made with the Irish fell through when the police changed his transport at the last minute, sending his original transport on without him.
Due to the controversy surrounding Toric and the violent end of Clay's original transport, as well as questions surrounding the legitimacy of the investigation into the murder of Damon Pope, Clay was charged with murder then several years later won his appeal and was released.
He heard almost nothing from the club while he was in prison, and it's only since his release that he got back in touch with them and found out what happened in his absence. With nothing else left and his arthritis getting worse, he's been trying to mend fences. Though he'll never hold a vote in the club again, he and Jax have a truce of sorts.
